Meet The Candidates

We highly encourage you to read each candidate's letter of intent and become acquainted with their platforms. As you read, please be mindful that every candidate is a member of our community and should be treated as such throughout the elections process. Please also note that each candidate is qualified and has exhibited tremendous dedication by entering into this elections process. Again, we are pleased to announce the candidates for the upcoming year's Regional Board and we can't wait to see you at Spring Boards on February 28 - March 1 in Cleveland, OH.

Candidate for President

Izzy Lashley is excited to be running for Regional President for the 2020-2021 year! She is in the 11th grade and attends Brush Highschool in Cleveland and is a member of TEMTY. She has served on the NFTY-NEL regional board as the Religious and Cultural Vice President for two years. She enjoys skiing and dogs, and has attended URJ GUCI for 7 years and will be attending this summer to participate in the Avodah program! She can’t wait to see you all at spring boards!

Candidates for Programming Vice President

Dani Krantz is in grade 11 and is a part of ACTY in Cleveland, Ohio! She is currently serving as her TYG’s co-RCVP and CVP, previously served as ACTY’s PVP, and has been a regional historian for the past two years. Besides NFTY, she loves to ski and travel and is an editor for her school’s newspaper, as well as a diver for her school’s swimming and diving team.

Carly Beard is so excited to be running for Programming Vice President. She is currently in Grade 11 (junior), lives in Toronto and is from Mharzy. Carly has been the MVP, SAVP and PVP on Mharzy board, and was on the Regional Cabinet for 2 years. She loves to play many sports such as squash, tennis, field hockey and rugby. Her favourite snack has to be handfuls of chocolate chips, which she will consume daily.

Candidate for Social Action Vice President

Nathan Wallens is an 11th grader from Buffalo, New York who belongs to Temple Beth Zion. He served one year as his temple youth group Social Action Vice President and one year as the Nfty-NEL Social Action Vice President. Nathan is currently enrolled at Grand Island Senior High School. Nathan enjoys playing the trumpet for his schools wind ensemble as well as playing Lacrosse for his school's varsity lacrosse team.

Candidate for Religious and Cultural Vice President

Tovah Elia is currently in 11th grade at Solon High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Tovah belongs to Temple Emanu El, and serves as one of their current Religious and Cultural Vice Presidents. Previously, Tovah has been a TYG songleader, a TYG RCVP, and a regional songleader. She loves to play guitar and basketball in her free time. Tovah is excited to be running for RCVP in the upcoming 5780-5781 year!

Candidates for Membership Vice President

Nathan Kaplan is from TBaZY in Buffalo NY and goes to Clarence High School as a junior. At school, Nathan plays soccer and does track. For fun he loves to travel the world, scuba dive, go on safaris, and ski with his family! Previously, he was on his TYG board as the PVP and is currently the regional PVP. He has attended three North American events and two summers at the URJ Kutz leadership camp. He can’t wait to run for your MVP!

Yael Haas is a grade 11 student in Toronto. She is Feistey’s Communications VP and played a key planning role in Winter Kallah. In the last 4 years, Yael has been an assistant teacher at Temple Emanuel. Yael gets joy from public speaking and theatre and has won several school speech competitions. Yael spends her free time singing and listening to music with friends. The NEL community holds a special place in Yael’s life.

Candidates for Communications Vice President

Mari Rosenzweig is a grade 11 at The Harley School which is in Rochester New York. She is a member at Temple Sinai and an active member in RATSY, MCVP last year and president this year. When not at NFTY NEL events or school Mari can be found hanging out with friends at work, or eating Annie’s mac and cheese. Her hobbies include graphic design, digital art, horseback riding and petting her kitten named Lorelai.

Nikki Davis is from Cleveland and is currently in 11th grade at Mayfield High School. She is part of ACTY at Fairmount Temple, where she has been a member, CVP, and is the current president. She has also been a historian for NEL’s regional cabinet in past years. Aside from being heavily involved with her TYG, Nikki runs for her school’s cross country team, participates in annual school musicals, and enjoys doing any kind of art.
