Meet The Candidates

At our Spring Boards/#NELections event March 1-3 in Buffalo, NY, we will be electing the future leadership of our region! Take some time to read their letters of intent and brief biographies, and register today if you haven't signed up to come to the event!


Candidates for President

Sammy Kane

My name is Samantha Kane, I am in 11th grade I am apart of Temple Beth Zion in Buffalo NY. I have served on my TYGs board as Seventh and Eighth-grade representative, Membership-Vice president, and President. I am very much involved in dancing and sports at my school. I have played Varsity soccer and Lacrosse. Outside of NFTY I love to hang out with my friends, dance, sleep, and spend time with my family.

Josh Shankman

Josh Shankman is currently in 11th grade at Shaker Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Josh belongs to Temple Emanu El and is very involved in their youth group, TEMTY. Previously, Josh has been RCVP and PVP of TEMTY, a cabinet member in NEL’s Internal Structures Committee and T’Filah Kehillah, and regional PVP of NEL. Josh loves to play baseball in his free time, as well as hang out with his friends and play sports.

Candidates for Programming Vice President

Nathan Kaplan

Nathan Kaplan is from TBaZY in Buffalo NY and goes to Clarence High School. At school Nathan does soccer, track, and volleyball. He loves to travel the world with his family and do crazy things like scuba dive, go on safaris, and ski down the summits of mountains! Currently, he is on his TYG board as the Programming Vice President and has also been in the Programming Cabinet helping to make awesome programs at events!

Candidates for Social Action Vice President

Nathan Wallens

Nathan Wallens is in tenth grade and part of TBaZY in Buffalo, New York. He attends Grand Island High School where he is a defenseman for his school lacrosse team and plays the trumpet in his schools wind ensemble. Nathan loves to spend his summers on the water and loves to try crazy new foods. He is currently in the position of Social Action Vice President on his TYG board and is part of the SAVP cabinet.

Candidates for Religious and Cultural Vice President

Izzy Lashley

Shalom! Izzy Lashley is absolutely thrilled to be running for Religious and Cultural Vice President for the 5779-5780 year! She is in grade 10 and TEMTY! She’s had the honor of serving as RCVP and is currently serving on NFTY’s Environmental Justice Task Force and Israel Engagement Committee. Outside of NFTY she attend URJ camp GUCI in the summer, is on the academic challenge team at school, and loves to ski!

Candidates for Membership Vice President

Allie Feldman

Allie Feldman is super excited to be running for NFTY-NEL Membership Vice President. She will be in grade 12 for the 5779-5780 year and she is a participant of TEFTY in Cleveland. Currently she is TEFTY’s Membership Vice President and on Regional Cabinet. Besides NFTY, she coaches boys basketball during the winter; in the summer she goes to Camp Wise. During her free time she loves hanging out with her NFTY friends and watching Parenthood.

Candidates for Communications Vice President

Megan Fleisher

Megan Fleisher is from Cleveland, Ohio, and she’s in 11th grade. She has served on her TYG board as MVP and President. She has been on Regional Cabinet as a Dance Sesh leader for two years. Her regular week includes dancing almost every day, singing in three choirs, and working at an ice cream shop, Mitchell’s. She has attended every NFTY event since 8th grade, and she loves the NEL community more than anything.

Dani Krantz

My name is Danielle Krantz and I am from Shaker Heights, OH and I am a sophomore at Shaker Heights High School. Besides being a historian in NEL and co-PVP in ACTY, I love to swim, box, and act! I am a member of the school newspaper and I love to write. I also love meeting and getting to know new people!
